Abstract

Diabetes mellitus, a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, continues to show an increasing global prevalence. Indonesia ranks 7th worldwide with 10.7 million patients, with DKI Jakarta as one of the provinces with the highest prevalence (Ministry of Health, 2020). This study aims to identify the level of medication adherence among diabetes mellitus patients at Pasar Minggu Community Health Center, South Jakarta. Using a qualitative descriptive design, 50 diabetes mellitus patients were involved as respondents. Data were collected through the MMAS-8 (Modified Morisky Adherence Scale-8) questionnaire to measure medication adherence levels. The results showed that the majority of respondents were women (70%), aged 56-60 years (48%), with disease duration of less than 5 years (60%). The level of medication adherence was relatively low, with 48% of respondents having low adherence, 10% moderate adherence, and 42% high adherence. This study concludes that the level of medication adherence among diabetes mellitus patients at Pasar Minggu Community Health Center is still low, with the dominant patient characteristic being elderly women. Efforts to increase adherence through education and family support are needed, as well as further research to analyze factors affecting medication adherence in diabetes mellitus patients.
